What is the Technology Transformation Taskforce?

In May of 2009 Governor Gregoire signed into law House Bill 1946 which went into effect on July 26, 2009 and directed the Higher Education Coordinating Board to convene a higher education technology transformation taskforce. This taskforce has been directed to develop a plan to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of public higher education relative to the strategic and operational use of technology.

Taskforce Membership

HB 1946 specified that the taskforce be composed of individuals from public higher education institutions and agencies as well as representatives from the Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board and the Department of Information Services.  With a total of 21 members, the taskforce represents a diversity of knowledge and experience from within Washington's public higher education system.

The Challenge

Public higher education in the State of Washington has been issued the challenge of finding more ways to effectively and efficiently use technology to further the state's strategic educational goals.

The taskforce will seek out opportunities for the higher education system to share core resources in areas such as instructional resources, student services, administrative information technology, help desk services, faculty professional development, and more.

Timeline

The taskforce is to present a preliminary report on its activities to the legislature by December 1, 2009 and a final report with recommendations by December 1, 2010.

Meeting Schedule & Documents

The taskforce will meet on a regular basis throughout the next 16 months.  Meetings will be both face-to-face and online. As meetings are scheduled more information will be posted.
