Washington State Aid Programs

The state of Washington funds a variety of financial aid programs to help students and their families pay for college.

Following this list is a brief description for each program. The links will direct you to program-specific pages with information on eligibility, deadlines, and how to apply.

 

Program Descriptions

Alternative Routes to Teacher Certification Conditional Scholarship - To help school districts recruit teachers in subject matter and geographic areas with a teacher shortage.

American Indian Endowed Scholarship - For financially needy undergraduate and graduate students with close social and cultural ties to a Native American community.

College Bound Scholarship - A new scholarship program designed to cover the cost of tuition, fees and books for low-income students who pledge in 7th or 8th grade to graduate from high school and demonstrate good citizenship.

Educational Opportunity Grant - College students with junior standing who want to complete a bachelor’s degree may be eligible for this grant.

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA is the form used by virtually all two and four-year colleges, universities, and career schools in the country, for the awarding of federal student aid and most state and college aid.

Future Teachers Conditional Scholarship and Loan Repayment - For current teachers seeking shortage subject endorsements and current students and paraprofessionals who want to become teachers in Washington K-12 public schools. 

GET Ready for Math and Science Conditional Scholarship Program - A new conditional scholarship for high school students who achieve a level four on the math or science portion of the tenth grade WASL, earn an undergraduate degree in a qualified math or science program, and upon college graduation, commit to work in Washington State  for three years in a qualified math or science occupation.

Health Professional Loan Repayment & Scholarship - Participants in these programs agree to provide primary care health care in rural or underserved urban areas in Washington with designated shortages.

Passport to College Promise Scholarship Program - Foster youth receive support to prepare for and succeed in college.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship - Washington high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and show promise of continued academic excellence are selected to apply.

State Need Grant - Undergraduate resident students with significant financial need may be eligible for these awards.

State Work Study - Undergraduate and graduate students with financial need can earn money for college and gain work experience through part-time work study placement.

Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE)
High school and community/technical college students receive scholarships in recognition of outstanding achievement in vocational-technical education.

Washington Scholars - These high school students from each of the 49 state legislative districts are eligible for grants in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

WICHE - Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education Student Exchange - Washington residents can enroll in eligible undergraduate and graduate programs in 14 western states at reduced tuition rates.
