FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 1, 2009WSU student appointed to HECB OLYMPIA— Andrew M. Helm, a 2011 Doctor of Pharmacy candidate at Washington State University, has been appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire to fill the designated student position on the 10-member Higher Education Coordinating Board. Helm is a Washington native who has lived and attended school on both sides of the Cascades. He received degrees from Spokane Falls Community College and Eastern Washington University before entering the WSU doctoral program. Helm is heavily involved in student leadership and currently serves as a student member on the boards of the Spokane Pharmacy Association, the Washington State Pharmacy Association, and the Student Executive Board for the National Community Pharmacists Association, where his is also the National Pharmacy Student President-Elect. Helm currently represents student interests as a liaison for numerous other committees and professional associations. In 2008-09, he served a term as Senator and Legislative Liaison for the WSU Graduate and Professional Student Association, as well as board member for the Washington Student Association (formerly the Washington Student Lobby). Helm’s one-year appointment will run from July 2009 to June 2010.
