Washington's State Work Study Program

Through State Work Study (SWS), students help employers with their part-time staffing needs, while earning money for college and gaining valuable work experience. The state's two- and four-year colleges and universities, and many private colleges and universities, offer this form of financial aid to eligible students.

Want to become a State Work Study employer?

We invite you to join more than 3,000 employers participating in Washington's nationally recognized State Work Study program.

Consider the benefits:

    You can . . .

  • Hire bright employees - college students with the cutting-edge skills your organization needs.
  • Preview talent - you will be able to observe their
    on-the-job performance and preview some of the top talent in the state.
  • Save money - on wages and on-the-job training and, if you like what you see, save again on future recruitment and hiring costs.

To encourage employers to participate, the state reimburses up to 65 percent of the student's wages.

It's easy to participate, just:

  1. Determine the kind of work you need performed;
  2. Contact a participating college or university near you;
  3. Complete and return two simple forms; and
  4. Following approval, interview student employees and confirm their eligibility.

Then you're ready to hire, train, and pay your student employee and be reimbursed in less than six weeks.
