Faculty Salaries

The Higher Education Coordinating Board is charged with reviewing and recommending salary levels for faculty and exempt employees at Washington’s public colleges and universities. As part of the board’s biennial budget recommendations, we complete a faculty salary study to compare the faculty salaries at Washington public colleges and universities with those at their respective peer institutions.

Key Facts

  • Over the past 10 years, average faculty salaries at Washington institutions, especially at the baccalaureate level, have generally fallen compared to salaries at peer institutions in other states.

  • Average faculty salaries at Washington public four-year colleges and universities ranged from $54,879 at The Evergreen State College to $83,530 at the University of Washington in 2004-2005. The average faculty salaries at Washington public two-year colleges was $48,202.
